How to Design a Skirt
In this ‘fashion design – sewing and design class’ we will create a skirt from scratch using your measurements. Using professional Fashion Design techniques you will learn how to measure yourself correctly- then turn those measurements into a block – pattern and toille to fit you! This one day sewing workshop will help to improve your sewing skills and develop the design knowledge you need to design and create a variety of skirts.
You’ll study professional pattern cutting in womenswear using block pattern manipulation techniques based on your own sized block.
Miss Libby Rose will guide you through the following:-
Measuring Techniques: You will learn the techniques of measuring up for skirts of all shapes and sizes.
Creating Patterns: We will create the pattern for a skirt of your choice – A-line, straight, pencil or maxi.
Fabrics: You will learn about the different types of fabrics suitable for skirts of different types.
Pattern Layout: You will learn how to lay a pattern economically onto fabric, how to create notches and the correct pattern markings needed.
Cutting and Preparing: You will learn how to properly cut and prepare your garments so they can be sewn up quickly and correctly.
Sewing and Finishing: You will learn how to put your garments together and add notions or other decorative details, we will also look at garment construction including seam allowances and fastenings.
This is an intermediate level workshop and not for the absolute beginner. You are required to have attended at least one beginners class before booking a place on this workshop
All materials will be provided including calico fabric for your toile, basic fabrics to make up your skirt (you can bring along your own fabric for final skirt if you wish) and handouts for you to carry on at home plus any tips and hints for fabulous skirt making!
